Since oil prices have gone through the roof, biodiesel has the potential of becoming a cheaper fuel as well as being a more stable source than petroleum diesel. The animal fat and vegetable oil undergo a particular procedure termed as transesterification.
It also results in lower noise pollution. Biodiesel is safer for people to breathe. Biodiesel is good for the environment.
Biodiesel is defined as mono-alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids derived from vegetable oils or animal fats which conform to specifications for use in diesel engines. Its resources are available in almost all of the countries in the world. Raw vegetable oil cannot meet biodiesel fuel specifications, it is not registered with the EPA, and it is not a legal motor fuel.
There is still a lot of work ahead of us to truly replace the fossil fuels with bio fuel. Biodiesel can be used in its pure form or it may also be blended with petroleum diesel.
